Pumpkin Blaze Long Island

The creators of Pumpkin Blaze Long Island have carved a singular, magical experience for Long Islanders to enjoy. Displaying over 7,000 glowing pumpkins, they have set up a path of iconic New York destinations for families to view while oohhhing and ahhhing over the artistry and creativity on display.

First things first:

The Pumpkin Blaze is on display in our area from September 30- November 6 at Old Bethpage Restoration Village. Weekends sell out quickly, so be sure to grab your tickets for the date you want!

Who is this for?

Pumpkin Blaze Long Island is a total family event. I visited with two seven year olds and one six year old- they were absolutely enchanted. With three kids, the trail took us about one hour and 20 minutes. There were many families with babies and toddlers in strollers and the trail is well- designed for stroller tires. Beware: There is one spooky part – the recreation of the Amityville Horror house- read more below about the specific parts of the trail below.

Getting There: After heading out to Old Beth Page Restoration Village, you will park and head for the beginning of the trail. Alert: Bathrooms are located OUTSIDE of the trail, so make sure everyone in your party goes first to avoid turning back.

What will you see?
The start of the trail is lined with rows and rows of carved traditional jack o’ lanterns. You will be delighted with all of the different faces!
As you continue along the trail you will find the map of Long Island made entirely out of pumpkins! Be sure to look for your town on the map.

Next, the fire department and Nassau County police get a creative shout out with a police car and firefighter made out of the glowing globes. Don’t miss the moment when the fire hose turns on to reveal blue “water” shooting out.

Then, The enormous spider web with hundreds of spider pumpkins is next- this one makes for a great photo opportunity.
Continuing on … Horror Awaits at the Amityville Horror House… This farmhouse has been re-created with spooky music and pumpkin headed scarecrows in the yard- walk by this one if you dare!

For a historical spooky lesson- The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is depicted with awesome details and you will see the headless horseman galloping through the night!

Iconic Long Island
Heading further in, you’ll see the field of sunflowers designed to look like some of our favorite farms out east- make sure to catch the beautiful details that the stalks and heads are created out of… carved pumpkins.
The iconic lighthouse waits for visitors with its light shining through the fog- this magical backdrop sets the scene for the sea creatures that are located on the next part of the path.

As you go through, make sure to read all of the signs highlighting the historical significance of each part of the displays. From a quick history lesson (did you know we had a witch trial here way before Salem?) to detailed descriptions of Long Island favorites- you are sure to learn something here! On our visit I overheard many families explaining the Legend of Sleepy Hollow to kids with their mouths hanging open in surprise at the famous legend in our state!

Hall of Fame
In a large farm building you will find the famous people from our very own area. Don’t miss the chance to see Mariah Carey and Billy Joel- made completely from pumpkins. This is truly an incredible feat.

For the Kiddos
The circus train and the carousel are cheerful spots on the trail as you head towards the exit and giftshop. You will want to stop in for local treats like Pumpkin muffin mix and a nice selection of Halloween themed children’s books.
